How to Make Beats in FL Studio – Step 5: Creating a Bass Section

Before you can say you know how to make beats in FL Studio you need to know how to harden up a beat with some bass. First, make sure that you change the pattern you’re working on from 3 to 4 and then add a BooBass channel to the FL Studio Step Sequencer (the same way you added FL Keys). Then adjust the BooBass knobs to get the sound you’re after or copy the beat author’s settings in the video.

(For a visual see the 6:36 point of the video above)

After adding a bar to the Pattern 4 row in the FL Studio Playlist, open up the BooBass channel in the Piano Roll and, if you already know what you want your bassline to sound like, draw it in. Otherwise, play and eventually record it into the Piano Roll in pattern sequencing

How to Make Beats in FL Studio – Step 6: Creating a String Section

Now for your beat’s finishing touch – strings. First, make sure that you change the pattern you’re working on from 4 to 5.

Next, add the sample, “STR_Ensemble” to the FL Studio Step Sequencer (drag and drop it on from the left-hand browser window) and, if you want to follow the beat author’s lead, turn down its volume.

(For a visual see the 8:00 point of the video above)

Remember to add a bar next to Pattern 5 in the FL Studio Playlist. At this point, the beat author also doubles-up (copy’s and paste next to the copied original) Patterns 1-4 in the playlist, effectively doubling the length of the track. This is a technique that you can’t overlook if you want to be able to confidently claim that you know how to make beats in FL Studio.

(For a visual see the 8:00 point of the video above)

Open up STR_Ensemble in the Piano Roll and just as you did with when creating your piano section (Step 3), you’re going to record a melody using your keyboard (or mouse) and then edit your recording if it was off-time or otherwise not to your liking. In order to make sure you truly know how to make beats in FL studio, copy the arrangements of the beat author in the video.
